Le Mat is inspired by the Tarot card, Le Mat, The Fool or Journeyman. An enigma and propulsion, the end and the beginning.

A powerful icon of the Major Arcana, cards of symbols and numbers that portend future and fate. We must turn over cards and accept fate, walk forwards into new futures, lives and loves. We may not have all the tools for survival, but we have hope and defiance.

Like everything else that the house of Mendittorosa creates, Le Mat is an incredibly symbolic perfume.

The perfume was composed by the perfumer Anne-Sophie Behaghel who looked at a person that walks towards a future he doesn’t yet know; a person who needs an aim in life.

As Le Mat needs to know the past to move forward in life, Anne-Sophie thought very naturally of a Chypre composition. As the Chypre family of fragrance is the beginning of the perfumery, and we need to know the past accords to create the future accords.

The perfume explodes with earthy, subtly sweet and spicy notes of black pepper, cloves and and nutmeg, heaven-sent patchouli, anchoring a sensual Rosa Centifolia from Grasse. The unusual complexities of immortelle, cloves, black pepper and Egyptian geranium are blended so beautifully, almost impossible to imagine but this talisman of a perfume is a masterfully crafted balsamic blessing, that will boldly defend mind and body.

In the 2018 edition of “Perfumes, The Guide”, acclaimed fragrance critic Luca Turin awarded Le Mat a coveted 5 stars.

LE MAT PACKAGING

Le Mat is housed in a heavy French-made glass bottle with a cap fashioned from a handful of clay, moulded by the hands of Tuscan sculptor Alessandro Reggioli, each one imprinted with the artist’s fingerprints, which bestowed its unique. Fastened around the bottle is a handmade terracotta charm incised with the words “Le Mat” and a tiny bell announcing Le Mat’s arrival.

The bottle is presented in a wooden hand-made box with a copy of the original Le Mat’s Marseille Tarot card – licensed by the Academy of Tarot.
