The inspiration for Woody Mood is Roger Steffens' 1973 photo of a woman wandering alone in a California redwood forest, shafts of sunlight piercing the gloom.
The perfumer chosen to recreate the olfactory experience based on Steffens' photo is Bertrand Duchaufour, the "father" of the most influential woody-incense scents in modern perfumes history.
With Woody Mood, the perfumer reaches inside our soul and pulls out all our memories and fantasies of autumn – crisp air, woodsmoke, the crackle of leaves, bonfire – compiled together into autumnal poem.
Woody Mood opens with a rich whiskey-soaked wood, which quickly dries out into a pure woodsmoke. Aromatic sage gives the woods a masculine nuance, but the perfume sits beautifully on female skin too.
From the radiant woods and earthy tones, black tea, cacao and styrax emerge and darken the scent to the point where the woody notes blend into smokey leather.
The contrast in Woody Mood between the peppery brightness of the woods and the darkness of burnt resin is a perfect mirror of the play of light on dark in the photo.
