This is an ode to a special variety of geranium, Egyptian Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens), not to be confused with the vivid red blooms that adorn window boxes. The Latin name Pelargonium graveolens means ‘’sweet-scented’’ and it yields one of the most versatile essences in perfumery. It is distilled from the leaves of the plant, rather than its flowers, it has long been used as a fresh rosy note, hence why it is referred to as ‘’rose geranium’’.
The perfumer behind the latest creation by the brand is Nathalie Feisthauer, who masterfully draws geranium from the depths of the fragrant pyramid to display its complex facets.
The scent is strikingly elegant, aromatic, fruity and almost incense-like, which is a signature trail in all of Aedes de Venustas’s perfumes. More balsamic than rose, Pelargonium’s top notes reveal very cool orris notes and calming cedar-wood, which are enough to excite us what is yet to come. Space is gently made for the entrance of dark, smokey vetiver, guaiac wood and moss.
Shot through with glints of green cardamom, the golden light of Calabrian bergamot suffuses the scene, caught by richly textured ingredients that bring volume and contrast to the composition. The herbal sweetness of carrot enriches the orris accord; ambery clary sage suggests the softness of velvety leaves.
The fresh and balsamic facets of the geranium is enhanced by a haze of musks, just the right amount to smooth out its sharp edges.
Unconventional, abstract beauty.
